Sexual and gender diverse (SGD) patients face a myriad of unique dermatologic issues along with other interrelated health issues that are very relevant to practicing dermatologists and health care providers in the dermatology field.

Individuals in the SGD patient population have unique needs which are often unmet by their care providers. They experience poorer overall health compared to their cisgender and heterosexual counterparts due to multifactoral reasons including discrimination, identity concealment, internalized and external homophobia, and most importantly, a lack of health care provider training on their specific health needs.

Relevant health concerns in terms of medical care, such as acne, hormone therapy, contraceptives, hair loss, HPV, and cancer screening, and procedural care including hair removal, injectable toxins and fillers, facial modification, and gender confirmation surgery, are critical for the continued education of modern clinicians seeing this population.

As it is important to consider that dermatologic care for SGD patients requires more than just clinical and aesthetic medical expertise, LiVDerm’s 3-hour Sexual and Gender Diverse Dermatology Summit: Fundamentals and Practical Pearls will cover these topics while focusing on a whole-practice approach, including important concepts such as proper consent forms, appropriate terminology, medical insurance issues, and patient-clinician communication. This deep dive experience within the SBS: West Coast Derm conference will provide all attendees with practical and clinical pearls to apply in their practices, maximizing the care they provide to their SGD patients.
