Dermatologic Care in the Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) Patient

LiVDerm Deep Dive

Location TBA

Relevant health concerns in terms of medical care, such as acne, hormone therapy, contraceptives, hair loss, HPV, and cancer screening, as well as procedural care, including hair removal, injectable toxins and fillers, facial modification, and gender confirmation surgery, are critical for the continued education of modern clinicians seeing this population.

Patients in the sexual and gender minority (SGM) population face a myriad of unique dermatologic issues along with other interrelated health issues that are very relevant to practicing dermatologists and health care providers in the dermatology field. Individuals in this patient population have unique needs which are often unmet by their care providers and experience poorer overall health than their cisgender and heterosexual counterparts, due to a multitude of reasons including discrimination, identity concealment, internalized and external homophobia, and most importantly, a lack of healthcare provider training on their specific health needs.

As it is important to consider that dermatologic care for SGM patients requires more than just clinical and aesthetic medical expertise, this 7-hour educational program will cover these topics while focusing on a whole-practice approach, including important concepts such as proper consent forms, appropriate terminology, medical insurance issues, patient-clinician communication, leaving all attendees with practical and clinical pearls to apply in their practices and maximize the care they provide to their SGM patients.
