Glynis Ablon, MD, a native Californian, is a board-certified dermatologist who completed her training at Baylor School of Medicine in Houston, TX. Dr. Ablon chose her specialty of dermatology early on in her second year of medical school because she loved knowing that she could make others feel better and more confident about themselves.

“I have always wanted to have a career that really helped people and made a difference in their lives,” she says.

Dr. Ablon is an associate clinical professor at UCLA, practicing at both UCLA and LCMH. She is active in clinical research and is the first published author in the United States in mesotherapy.

Dr. Ablon attributes her success to perseverance, hard work and a dedication to excellence.

She is an on-camera medical consultant for The Doctors Show, E! Entertainment, ABC, CBS, KCAL and Lifetime. Dr. Ablon is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Academy of Liposuction Surgery, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

She also owns The Ablon Skin Institute (ASI) Research Center, an independent clinical research site specializing in dermatology clinical trials. The full-time research staff has over 18 years of research experience and an excellent reputation for presenting accurate data and immediate turn-around times for regulatory document submissions and other clinical trial documents.

“Every day I realize how lucky I am to be able to do what I love – saving lives (from skin cancer), making people feel good about themselves, a younger more vivacious version of themselves. We are all living longer, healthier lives; we should be able to look on the outside as young as we feel on the inside,” she says.

Dr. Ablon is a session director and faculty member for the 2018 South Beach Symposium. She enjoys participating in the South Beach Symposium because she learns something new every year she attends. “Some of the most amazing speakers present cutting-edge data, novel devices, treatments and pearls of wisdom that are invaluable,” Dr. Ablon says.

Q&A with Dr. Ablon

What is one of the most recurring patient complaints you get?

“Patients want amazing results with no downtime. Setting appropriate expectations are key. Technology has really advanced and we can get fantastic results with little to no downtime. It is imperative to take good before and after pictures. Make sure you and your staff are well trained and have a designated photo wall with correct wall colors for the best photos. When patients see their before pictures, any complaints stop there. But also remember to be realistic in the amount of improvement patients can expect with each procedure and satisfied patients will return and send their friends.”

What are your top secrets to looking young from a dermatologist’s perspective?

“I believe it’s all about the natural look, enhancing a patient’s best features as well as your own. We are our own best advertising. Make sure not to overdo when treating yourself. Photorejuvenation and neuromodulators should be done regularly, tightening procedures annually, and fillers as needed. You can try new procedures, but be judicious in your choices. Choose the best skin care regimen for your skin type. I don’t buy a laser without trying it out on my staff, or myself. I really do think less is more and of course wear your sunscreen.”
