About

Clifford W. Lober, M.D., J.D. is an Affiliate Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery at the University of South Florida in Tampa and Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medical Education at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Following undergraduate studies at Columbia University, he received his MD. from Duke University School of Medicine, internal medicine training at the Mayo Clinic, and dermatology residency at the University of Tennessee. After practicing dermatology for 20 years, he attended law school and earned the J.D. degree. He has been in solo private practice in the Orlando area for 38 years.

Dr. Lober has been a staunch advocate for dermatology, particularly for coverage, reimbursement, and access issues. When coverage for Mohs surgery was in jeopardy, for example, he worked with five national (AAD, ASDS, AOCD, Mohs College, and Mohs Society) and three state organizations to maintain coverage and appropriate reimbursement. When women with psoriasis were to be denied the use of biologic agents unless they failed first on methotrexate, he worked with the AAD, the Psoriasis Foundation, and state organizations to negate this attempt. He has worked extensively on coverage and reimbursement for actinic keratoses, phototherapy, dermatopathology, and numerous similar issues as the representative of the FSDDS to the Florida state Medicare carrier for over 25 years.

Dr. Lober was the first dermatologist to sit on the Board of the Florida Medical Association representing the surgical specialties. He presently serves as chair of the Specialty Society Section (representing all specialties) and again sits on the Board of the FMA. In that capacity, he has strongly addressed scope of practice, reimbursement, coverage, and access issues.

Having served on 58 AAD committees (and chaired 11, including the Section on Health Practice, Policy & Research for 6 years), Dr. Lober has also been president of the Florida Society of Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery (twice) as well as the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons. He received the first Distinguished Service Award given by the FSDDS and subsequently also received their Practitioner of the Year Award. He has also received the Surgeon of the Year award from the FSDS. His efforts have also resulted in awards from the American Society for Mohs Surgery and the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology. In recognition of his efforts on behalf of the American Academy of Dermatology, Clifford Lober, M.D., J.D.,has received seven AAD Presidential Citations (1997, 2000, 2006, 2010, 2015, 2016, and 2017). He is most proud, however, having been selected as one of only five members of the Academy to be granted Honorary Membership in 2019.
